My Grandmother started walking five miles a day when she was 60.  She's 97 today and we don't have a clue where she is.

No one really like’s to talk about what happens to them in old age.  It’s not at all pleasant to think about.  And so, addressing our needs in our later years usually gets pushed off, sometimes until it’s too late.

But things are improving for our elder years. 20 years ago, the older generation became a burden on their family until they couldn’t deal with it anymore, and then were resigned to a nursing home.  Now, with the creation of Assisted Living Facilities and the Insurance Policies to pay for them, we can remain independent and productive far longer.

But, along with these advances, come vastly increased costs.  And like anything that costs a lot, planning should be done in advance.  So it’s now that decisions need to be made, not when you find yourself in need of assistance.  Are you a candidate for Long Term Care Insurance?  Can you afford it?  Can your spouse afford for you not to have it?

Your financial plan should tell you.  By looking forward 20 years, we can make a determination about whether you will be able to shoulder the cost of your Elder Care, or if you can qualify for Medicaid Assistance.  And, you can decide if the purchase of a Long Term Care Policy would be the best choice.
